Scholarships in Canada for Bangladeshi Students 2021
I got great news from the Facebook page of the Canadian Embassy in Bangladesh. While studying abroad, I often saw students coming to the university from other countries with scholarships for one semester to study. Talking to them, I found out that they are ‘students of the exchange program’. It would be a pity if Canada also introduced such an exchange program for Bangladesh.
Now the Government of Canada has launched the Exchange Program in ‘EduCanada Study in Scholarships’ as a New Year gift for Bangladeshi students. First of all, I would like to thank the Government of Canada for their friendly treatment of Bangladesh. The scholarship will be given to Bangladeshis every year from 2021 onwards.
Scholarships in Canada
How is the scholarship?
Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and master’s degree students from a number of developing countries from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), Canada’s official agency for global affairs, so that they can come to the university with the full exchange. Bangladesh has also been included in these countries from this year. There are only three countries from Asia — Bangladesh, Nepal, Taiwan.

Who can apply
Anyone who is currently studying for an undergraduate or master’s degree at a university in Bangladesh can apply. Especially for those who are studying undergraduates, I think this is a really great opportunity for them. Anyone studying theoretically Ph.D. in Bangladesh can apply here. But since most Bangladeshis are studying for undergraduate and master’s degrees, my article focuses only on them.

The scholarship will be awarded for four months or one semester. This is a semester when you come to Canada and do coursework or research work at a specific university. All costs will be borne by the Government of Canada.
What are the benefits of this scholarship?
Those who are nominated for this scholarship will receive 10,200 Canadian dollars for 4 months. More than 8 lakh in Bangladeshi rupees (1 Canadian dollar equals 8 rupees 93 paise). Totally tax-free! Masters students who come for six months of research will receive 12,600 Canadian dollars (about 8 lakh rupees). Under the scholarship scheme, students will not have to pay any tuition fees to study in Canada for one semester. So this money will be used to cover all the incidental expenses including visa fee, round trip plane ticket, accommodation cost, health insurance. That means the student does not have to spend a single penny. This is a financial advantage. And here in Canada, there is the experience of international networking, research with professors, the experience of taking classes.

How to apply
The application cannot be submitted automatically, it has to be done through the respective universities in Bangladesh. You have to go to the department head or dean of your own university and talk about this scholarship. He will submit an online application with all the documents mentioning his name and identity to the university in Canada where the student wants to come to study under this scholarship. To submit an online application, you need to open a Momentum Account on the DFATD’s online portal (https://bit.ly/2HCbLg1). After receiving the application online, the University of Canada will submit the final application for the DFATD candidate. These are the steps.
